Communication in Space
Communication in Space

TopSat was launched successfully on 27th October 2005 at 07:52:26 BST into a polar low Earth orbit on a COSMOS launch vehicle provided by Polyot and launched from Plesetsk in Northern Russia.

Two complete overhead passes of the satellite have occurred and the upload of software to the spacecraft On Board Computer has started. Telemetry (data) has been received from the spacecraft, and the commissioning phase is well underway.

Airport, Port and Transport Security (APTS)
8 - 9 November 2005
Olympia, London

QinetiQ will be both speaking and exhibiting at APTS 2005, Europe's leading transport and border security event. This year's APTS Aviation and Maritime Security conference, now in its 4th year, is supported by ACPO and the Department for Transport and will include expert input from an internationally acclaimed panel of speakers.

QinetiQ will be represented by Neil Fisher, who will be speaking on underwater security technology and its role in identifying vulnerabilities.

The Royal Institute of Navigation's annual conference will once again take place in Church House, London, on 1-3 November 2005. This year the theme will be 'Pushing the Boundaries' and the conference will cover advances in all aspects of navigation technology and its applications, including all-important safety issues.

QinetiQ will demonstrate what 'Pushing the Boundaries' really means. QinetiQ will have three speakers: Neil Boasman, John Goddard and Dr Simon Gouldsworthy, who are all presenting on various aspects of navigation including laboratory based integrated navigation simulators and QinetiQ's world first STOVL auto-land on HMS Invincible. Dr Paul Groves of QinetiQ is also chairing one of the conference sessions. For more information about the event visit
