QinetiQ has secured a key role in ESA's Galileo programme delivering analysis and security. As one of only a few companies in Europe with the Government pedigree and capability to support the security module development and integration, QinetiQ is proud to contribute this critical element of Galileo.

Galileo is Europe's global navigation satellite system, which will provide a wide range of user positioning services. Galileo will be compatible with existing systems such as GPS and EGNOS, and is expected to be fully operational before 2010 with a constellation of 30 satellites.

QinetiQ is working with LastMile Communications Limited to develop a wireless transceiver system that will enable the high-speed delivery of local information through a network of wireless nodes placed in existing roadside furniture, including road signs, gantries and lamp posts.

This will allow retailers and other commercial services like hotels, restaurants and shops to communicate special offers and useful information instantly and cheaply to all motorists within a given radius of a specific site. Users will be able to access this localised information via a range of mobile devices.

Ocellus S100 is a High Sensitivity GPS/GPRS remote surveillance and tracking device, which allows users to monitor the location of vehicles, assets and cargo anywhere in the world. High Sensitivity GPS enables operation in environments where it was not previously possible; in urban canyons, under heavy foliage and even indoors, and permits installation in locations where a direct sky view is not available. TopSat, the micro-satellite designed and built by a QinetiQ-led consortium of British firms has captured more images of Central London. TopSat is a major step forward in the affordability of space missions, providing high resolution images at a reduced cost compared to larger satellites. The image is bordered by Waterloo Station to the east, Wimbledon Park to the south west and the new Wembley stadium development to the north. Other notable features include Regents Park, the British Museum, the Serpentine and Fulham FC.
