QinetiQ and The Boeing Company have opened The Portal, a new decision-support capability at Farnborough. The facility is a state-of-the-art real-time environment that, through use of an advanced modelling, simulation and analysis toolset, provides extensive virtual experimentation capability to customers, as well as linking the QinetiQ quest network with Boeing's Labnet network in the US.

QinetiQ contribution makes 787 unveiling possible
QinetiQ contribution makes 787 unveiling possible

Boeing has unveiled its new 787 Dreamliner, an achievement made possible through testing conducted in QinetiQ's large-scale wind tunnel at Farnborough. Seven test entries have been completed in total for the 787 to verify its performance, stability and control, and noise characteristics. QinetiQ has also helped to conduct work on cabin noise, composites and low cost titanium.

UAE purchase Quadrant air traffic surveillance system

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates has purchased a Quadrant ADS-B air traffic surveillance ground station as part of its current air traffic control automation system upgrade. The deal was secured by COMSOFT, QinetiQ's development, manufacturing and marketing partner for the Quadrant ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) system.

QinetiQ technology features on James May Documentary
QinetiQ technology features on James May Documentary

A new BBC2 documentary, James May's 20th Century, has featured two QinetiQ technologies. The series first episode, which aired on 10th July, included images from TopSat, filmed at SSTL in Guildford. The second episode, looking at G-force, aired on 17th July and opened with footage from QinetiQ's centrifuge.
