Taking strides in the footwear market |
Stride Rite, the leading US children's footwear retailer and manufacturer, has begun a trial to evaluate QinetiQ's 3D foot gauge, a system designed to produce highly accurate foot measurements. The 3D foot gauge uses innovative 3D optical ranging technology patented and developed by QinetiQ to measure children's feet quickly and accurately. QinetiQ is currently discussing further evaluation of the foot gauge with a number of other international footwear retailers and manufacturers.

Showing stopping power in the US |
QinetiQ has secured a five-year Indefinite Duration, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the US Military, for the supply of our Vehicle Lightweight Arresting Device (VLAD), the US military designation for the X-Net®system. X-Net® is a man-portable spike and net system that when deployed in the path of a vehicle, will bring it to a complete standstill typically within 75 metres. Traditional roadside arresting systems - which use hollow spikes to puncture tyres - can often fail to stop the vehicle completely.

Revolutionary sensors |
QinetiQ has secured a two-year $5.0m research contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to support its Large Area Coverage Optical Search While Track and Engage (LACOSTE) programme. The research programme will investigate using 'first-of-their-kind sensors', such as lensless imaging, to provide tactical surveillance and tracking capabilities. QinetiQ's novel lensless imaging solution is itself a disruptive camera technology with a wide range of defence, security, industrial and commercial applications.

Working on NATO missile defence |
QinetiQ, as a member of a defence and technology team headed by SAIC, has become involved in a firm-fixed-price contract to support the integration of NATO's Active Layered Theater Ballistic Missile Defense (ALTBMD). QinetiQ's involvement in the contract is likely to include providing support in systems engineering, systems architecture, system maintenance and managing the extensive Integration Test Bed database.

Omni-ID development launched |
QinetiQ and Crown Holdings, Inc. have launched a joint development programme to adapt QinetiQ's Omni-ID Pak™ integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for use on metal packaging. The system allows brand owners to integrate ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID tags into metal packaging for a wide variety of applications at the single item level. The technology is being initially targeted at higher end applications such as perfumes or liquors, but it is anticipated to become involved in all levels of application in the future.
