QinetiQ have developed a new method of putting silver into fibres in order to produce materials that prevent the growth of bacteria and fungus.
The use of silver for its anti-microbial properties is not new, but QinetiQ’s silver nanotechnology enables a unique approach for incorporating the silver into a wide range of fibres. These fibres could be used to make wound management devices. Other potential applications include surfaces and materials in operating theatres, public transport or even homes to make more hygienic and safer environments.

QinetiQ has delivered a swift solution to a seemingly impossible problem by fitting a recording device to a submarine periscope.
The technology gives a video record of an operator’s eye view and still images and video clips can be taken from the footage and transmitted from the submarine to other submarines or to a shore base. It could also be used for mission planning and reconnaissance in active service.
