Highlights this month include World first UAV autonomy demonstration, QinetiQ security system piloted in New York and QinetiQ iX launched. World first UAV autonomy demonstration A system which provides a single pilot with the ability to fly their own aircraft while simultaneously directing up to four further unmanned aircraft has been successfully demonstrated from the cockpit of a military fast jet for the first time. The system, developed by QinetiQ and funded by the MOD gives unmanned aircraft an advanced level of independence and intelligence, or autonomy. Read the Press Release QinetiQ security system piloted in New York A QinetiQ security system is to be used to detect explosive devices on passengers boarding the Staten Island Ferry at the St. George Terminal in Staten Island in New York. SPO-20 is a tripod-mounted security screening system designed to detect explosive devices concealed under people's clothing without asking passengers to slow their pace. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), is beginning to test the system this week.
